TRANSCRIBE/TRANSLATE was a multi-disciplinary open-call exhibition, held at SYSTEM art gallery. This collaborative show brought together the work of both established and emerging artists made in response to the theme of transcription.
All of the featured works were re-interpretations of a pre-20th Century artwork. These transcriptions weren’t a direct copy, but instead were produced as a reactive creation, inspired by the original. Incorporating new contexts, elements, mediums or themes, the artists selected all formed a new artwork very much their own, whilst also shedding light on their personal response to the original.
